We finally have an alternative to the various terrestrial radio stations in Singapore -- 170Radio.com. It's Singapore's first Internet radio to take to the cyber airwaves after almost a year of testing and trials. It's free to listen to and in their own words, aims to bring "everything that's edgy, real and of course, authentic" to Singapore.
Listeners can tune in virtually at the 170Radio.com website, and for mobile users, there's a free iPhone app (search for "170 Radio" in the Apple App Store), listed under Singapore on Nokia Internet Radio (which is download-able for free from the Ovi Store) and for Blackberry addicts, it can be found under "Country: Singapore" through Nobex Radio Companion in Blackberry's App World. There's no word yet of a Google Android equivalent, but it's probably not too far away.
170Radio.com currently has four resident deejays on board -- Andy Wong (aka "ND"), founder of ND Entertainment and a former presenter on MediaCorp Radio's Capital 95.8FM station, Vanessa, rabid blogger turned Internet deejay and gossip hound, Kamal, a music consultant and recording industry veteran, as well as Nikko, a pixie-faced aspiring rock band drummer of Chinese/ Japanese/ Indonesian heritage. The station's still on the hunt for more producer-presenters at the moment.
