Past elections produced many colourful characters entering the election fray. Sadly none of them succeeded but managed to draw many voters to them. Examples are as follows:
Lee Mun Hung, Gnaguru Thamboo Mylvaganam, Vetrively Rengaswamy, Leong Mun Kwai, Johnny Wee Lai Seng and many more.
Many of these people had in the past stood in Tanjong Pagar constituency against Lee Kuan Yew but failed to create a dent there.
I believe some of them may have died. Whatever it is, these people had the guts to face Lee Kuan Yew, no matter what their real motive may be. Those were the days.....
Today we have a slate of highly-intelligent opposition candidates with good qualifications and sincere motives to bring about a system that is fair to all Singaporeans. It took these people many years but they have now reached a stage that they are indeed a force to reckon with...
The results of the last GE 2011 showed that these people have the support of many Singaporeans. Even "new and young" faces that appeared in Ang Mio GRC and many other GRCs attracted a large support base. Hope they too won't slacken like what new PAP candidates did.
May I, as a citizen with the power of the ballot box, call upon the Government to attend to the needs of the people as soo as possible. Never rest on your laurels. Pride comes before a fall......
Singaporeans, by and large have scant or no respect at all for the PAP candidates who entered Parliament via uncontested GRCs. The same applies even to those that won by thin majority.
Selection of NMPs, new MPs and Head of departments MUST be based on MERIT and not some other consideration. We are watching you....

Not all of them were not altruistic. Example, nice lawyer M G Guru. Not all who join or run under big parties are altruistic either.

What they did not realise is the machinery, party. In other words, success in politics is one big team work. At least that is in Singapore.

I can tell you that some director in a listed company will lose his deposit as an independent candidate against a bank sales officer under WP.

WP better buck up and stop fielding bank sales officers

some peoples ( especially independents ) just wanted to stand for elections for the sake of it. they know cannot win but just happy to contest. read a story about a British factory worker who contested his 5th successive parliament election in his home district in 2010, the press interviewed him, why he contested every time? he explained he just want to contest, no political motives. he happy song! as usual, no election campaigning, less than 100 votes, lose deposit.

I am using an example. As far as I know there wasn't any opposition candidate who was a bank sales officer, much less WP.

I am using an example. WP need to up its game, the credentials of the 2011 slate, cept for csm, is nowhere near the super 7 and shanmugam

I am not trying to be an English teacher because I am not qualified, but if you were using an example you should say "WP better buck up and should not field bank sales officers". When you say "stop", it means you are saying that someone was doing something and therefore should stop.
