Singapore firm charged over arms smuggling to North Korea
Published: 10/06/2014 at 08:26 PM

SINGAPORE - A shipping company registered in Singapore was charged Tuesday in connection with the transfer of financial assets and resources that could have been used to contribute to North Korea's nuclear weapons programme.

Chinpo Shipping Company allegedly transferred 72,000 United States dollars to a shipping agent in Panama last year, having had reason to believe the money could contribute to Pyongyang's weapons programmes, prosecutors said.

The company was also charged with carrying out a remittance business without a valid licence between April 2009 and July 2013.

Accounts executive Tan Hui Tin was accused of helping her father and chairman of the company, Tan Cheng Hoe, to conceal computer records from investigators.

"Singapore takes a serious view of our international obligations to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, their means of delivery and related materials," a government statement said.

If found guilty under the United Nations regulations regarding North Korea, the company could be fined up to 1 million Singapore dollars (585,000 US dollars). Tan could be jailed for up to a month if convicted.

Just like the organ sale case of CK Tang chairman, they were charged because the fucking gahmen didn't get a cut from the deal.

Singapore and North Korea are trade partners.

Not many countries have a North Korean embassy. Singapore is one of the few that has diplomatic relations with North Korea.

The PAP govt has always placed money above integrity, honor and values.

In summary, not surprising at all. The US or UN should impose sanctions on Singapore.

By the way, 'chinpo' means 'penis' in Japanese. :D
