SINGAPORE (AP) — Singapore has filed criminal charges against a citizen of the city-state and a shipping company implicated in a shipment of weapons to North Korea that was seized by Panamanian authorities last year.
Singapore's foreign ministry says in a statement that Singaporean Tan Hui Tin and locally registered Chinpo Shipping Company Ltd. were charged by the public prosecutor on Tuesday.
A North Korean ship headed from Cuba to North Korea was seized in June last year by Panamanian authorities, who suspected it was carrying drugs. Two Cuban fighter jets in perfect condition, missiles and live munitions were discovered beneath the Chong Chon Gang's cargo of sugar.
Panama says the weapons violated U.N. sanctions restricting arms trading with North Korea.
Singapore's foreign ministry didn't specify what charges were filed.
