Holy cow, it is now almost 30 years from 1983. In 1983, I was already in Sec 2!! It seems like not too long ago, but hey, that is almost 30 years now.

The places shown in the video are Tanjong Pagar Road and Clarke Quay. These 2 places sure changed alot since 1980s...

Time really flies. TS, up you for the great video. Bring me back to my younger days.

;)

Michael Rogge's clips are excellent. I recommend you subscribe to his YT channel if you like this clip.

Yes, that was when gov were small and very productive and their pay were cheap and didn't tax so much on the hard working population.

Now, the big gov pay is so fucking high and expensive with so many ministers and civil servants leeching on hard working population with so many tax. The current gov is so fucking expensive and low productivity!

wow 1983 and sinkie land still looks like some 3rd world country. Seriously it looks just like the 1950s even in 1983. I suppose the only ppl that live in those type of areas now are foreigners?

Don't talk about japan. Go and see video clips of the US and england in say the 1950s and 60s or even earlier. OMG the place at those times can compare to sg today. No difference at all or even better.

im staying in japan so i just compare japan and singapore .

That was in the 1980s, Boat Quay, the bridge is still there today, you can see the first few HDBs in the video. That was how people lived back then. The rent for the shophouse room you see is about 60-80 SGD.

Land Sinke always been has third world. Today even is still world third! USA needed one hand half century, Japan needed 70 years, so Land Sinkie earliest become world first country is 2040, if it happens all at! Easy to build buildings, changing culture and mindset takes generations. :D

Well the problem is everyone says sg is 1st world country today in fact sg has been touted as first world for lord knows ages. Yet watch a movie about the US/england in the 50s or 60s. My god the place looks so nice back then. Actually look at the victorian era in england. Now back then it wasn't too clean or what but you see the dressing and the furnishing and all. Looks really classy. You can design a home or a room in the victorian era today that was during the 1800s in england and it would look classy today. Especially in singapore. If you asked the ang mohs they would say it's old fashioned which it is but they mean it in a different way to what locals mean. It's just a difference in taste for them but for locals old fashioned means 3rd world.

Singapore was a colony of England, of course England looks better. :D

Before 1960, if you were a 'citizen' in Singapore, you were a British subject, and can live and work in England without a visa for as long as you want.

Nobody says Singapore is first world, only the goverment and idiots would say that, and if you believe that good luck. Why do you think the Europeans and Japs live in Condos to avoid the locals when they come to Singapore if Singapore is truly first world?

Victorian era, England was very shitty. The plague killed half of London I think. Great Famine in Ireland killed half of them as well. Then WW2, the UK got bombed big time. And of course, the usual fightings between the Protestants and Catholics in the UK, and early Victorian era or slightly earlier, England was still ruled by the Church and Monarch... i.e. rubber stamp parliament. If the King wanted you to die, you would be hung, drawn and quartered.

The Americans and Canadians like Victorian houses and castles, because they think it is living history. The British are sick of it, haha.

Even today, London is shitty, overcrowded, raining everyday, cold. The best places to live in the UK are in the home counties. :)

Yes back in the 19th century of course it wasn't sun shine and rain bows but you cannot deny the homes of the rich looked really good.Nice carpet and furnishing etc. Actually the homes of china's rich looked pretty good too i suppose. The emperor's summer palace probably was luxurious but let's be honest somehow sg ppl would think the victorian homes of the 19th century looked more luxurious compared to the qing dynasty type of homes even palaces maybe a person from china would beg to differ i dunno. The the suits they wore back then are probably still in fashion today.

Anyway the london of today due to the overcrowding and also the decay in some sectors probably doesn't look as good as it did in the 60s.

bro,
these words are worth more weight than gold. you're right, mindsets take a generation or two to even budge. can still remember living around Langsat road in a rented house back in the 80s, 30 years gone by and old habits remained... heavy rain always prompt me to go wandering about in the house tidying stuffs because the strong winds would bring the house messy. and when it flooded, can see a lot of interesting things floating around :eek::eek:

japan is first world but they still needed to rebuild after ww2 after their defeat and the atomic bomb but hey it's not a surprise at all that japan is more advanced that sg.
