Former nurse charged with assaulting IMH patient
SINGAPORE: A former nurse was charged in court on Thursday (Nov 26) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a patient of the Institute of Mental Health.
Aung Phyo Thu, who is from Myanmar, assaulted the patient multiple times, punching, kicking and elbowing him on his back, head, legs and body. The patient sustained two fractured ribs as a result of the attack, which took place in February this year.
The 25-year-old is currently out on bail, which was set at S$20,000. His passport has also been impounded. He is also not allowed to approach the victim, as part of conditions of his bail.
Aung Phyo Thu could face up to 10 years' jail, as well as a fine or caning. His case will next be heard on Dec 21.
