While on a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from Copenhagen to Singapore, a man was served a fruit platter — only to discover that some of the fruit was mouldy.

He'd finished half the plate when he noticed

The man, R, told Mothership that he and at least three other passengers were served mouldy blackberries during the Jul. 11 flight.

He was flying business class at the time.

Offered compensation

R informed the cabin crew of the situation, but was told that the food was catered from Copenhagen, and therefore, out of their control.

The crew also offered him and the affected passengers a S$75 voucher as compensation.

R said he turned down the offer.

"This is a food safety issue and not something that a voucher remediates," he said.

He has since filed a complaint with SIA and intends to report the matter to the Singapore Food Agency.

SIA apologises

In response to Mothership's queries, an SIA spokesperson confirmed the incident.

The cabin crew removed the fruit platter, offered a replacement, and inspected all remaining fruit platters once they were alerted of the situation, the spokesperson said.

SIA has since engaged with the catering provider to review their processes and implement additional measures to prevent future incidents.

"We sincerely apologise to the customer for this experience," the spokesperson added.

He'd finished half the plate when he noticed
If he finished half the plates when he noticed, it means only small part of it was mouldy.
Sibeh neow le this passenger.
$75 voucher was a good deal de woh.

Maybe he only acted this way to highlight that he is a business class taker and if he was taking economic class he would even have swallowed the mouldy ones.

Many supermarkets or even solo fruits stalls always packed little mouldy fruits separately with fresh fruits and sells them at less than half the price.
Many uncles including me will snatch the best among the moulds.
I just need to slice off the mouldy part and they are completely edible.

Can eat don't waste
.

Probably came from NTU-see warehouse. I am aware of several mouldy stuffs on the shelves lately. Didn't they do the minimum QA check before passing the products to consumer?

If sinkies complain, sure no action. They only act when you are considered first class people.

Not SIA fault…it is SATS problem.
must be the meal supplier from a copenhagen airport kitchen, not sats as the flight originates from copenhagen. most likely old berries used for danish pastries mistaken as fresh ones for a fruit salad.

Maybe not washed properly.
berries last longer if they are unwashed. once washed must use right away. otherwise water droplets can cause molds to form. for high class meals must dry berries before serving. if they are served on flights must refrigerate after drying and wrapped before plating.
