I hope Derek can emulate his father's success in 1983 when the latter beat the then reigning World Champion Icuk Sugiarto to win the SEA Games Gold.

Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei has opted out of the individual events, and there goes Malaysia's best prospect for gold medal. Indonesia has sent a very young team, and while they are strong in men's doubles, they are weak in singles' event.

If Derek can overcome Thailand's old cock Boonsak Ponsana, he will win the gold for Singapore.
