[h=2]Should taxes be raised on PRs/foreigners to compensate natives for job discrimination[/h]
There have been complaints about bosses in Singapore discriminating against Singaporean natives because natives disrupt their business operations when they go on reservist duties.
I do not think it is fair to blame SME bosses for discriminating against native Singaporeans with reservist liabilities.
If you are a SME boss yourself, would you prefer to hire foreigners or native Singaporeans? Please understand that most SME have a very small staff. If staff strength is 5, 1 gone for reservist is 20% of human resource gone. It can cause huge disruption to business operations.
I think cost of reservists should be partially passed to foreigners and PRs by raising their taxes to compensate for the discrimination Singaporean natives (not new citizens) face in the job market. Otherwise, it is very hard for native Singaporeans to accept the status quo and welcome new immigrants when they are free-riding on our sacrifices.
Hope the government be mindful of such unfairness against our own local citizens. This is unfairness created by policies against our own local people. Not asking for subsidies or hand-outs. Just asking for fairness and justice.
Singapore is the only nation in the world today and in history of mankind to get the natives to sacrifice themselves in wartime to defend properties of foreigners while foreigners gain an advantage in the job market because employers discriminate against us as a result of our sacrifice made to defend the country. This is as good as asking Singaporean natives to become soldiers while foreigners steal our jobs because of the unfair advantage. One difference compared to mercenaries paid to be soldiers in ancient history is that Singaporeans are paid a pittance as soldiers. Not complaining on this part because this is our country. But what irks me is that our sacrifice caused us to lose jobs to foreigners because of the edge they gain in the job market from our very sacrifice to the country.
Much of our most expensive properties are owned by foreigners. A significant proportion of our population are foreigners. If the sacrifices for the defense of our country are not fairly shared by all who stands to benefit, it is very hard for Singaporeans to accept the new immigrants who are seen as free-riders.
Not asking for protection from competition from foreigners (meritocracy comes first), handouts from governments. Just asking for fairness in the distribution of sacrifice made to defend our country.
