Shanghai nude public photos dismissed as 'meaningless'

Photos of young women nude in some of the busiest parts of Shanghai have been shared and criticized widely on China's internet. An internet user who claimed to be the photographer apologized for his "art," reports the Shanghai Evening Post.

The first album of photos was taken on the city's Hengshan Road, a street lined with night clubs. Many dismissed the virtually naked woman in the photos as drunk and crazy.

More sets of similar photos were released later, with the featured woman posing provocatively in pedestrian hotspots like the Bund and Xitiandi.

An internet user named Kenny McCormick admitted to taking the photos, saying that they had originally been kept to a private forum created to showcase the user's "love of photographing the human body." They were uploaded to the wider public by another forum visitor, Kenny claimed.

Many agreed with a professional photographer's comments that the photos only depict a woman's private parts, devoid of any beauty or meaning. A minority banded with a Hong Kong film director, saying that an apology is not necessary.
