"The president is elected by Singaporeans. The office should be accorded due respect. So I am surprised by the minister's (Sham) remarks, which I quote 'WHETHER THE PESIDENT ACTUALLY WIELDS INFLUENCE OBVIOUSLY DEPENDS ON WHO THE PRESIDENT IS. IF HE IS SOMEONE WHO COMMANDS LITTLE OR NO RESPECT OF THE PRIME MINISTER, THEN OF COURSE INLFUENCE WILL BE LIMITED.'

Is he saying that the people's choice of the president matters little unless he is endorsed by the government? Then how is the president to be above politics?"

It is getting more absurd as PAP worms started to expose itself openly. If president role is to check on PAP, than why so resistant to be checked on?? Isn't it contradictory that PAP do not want a 3rd independent party to check on them but prefer PAP own candidate? Where is good governance when Singapore kept harping about wanting to be an accountable and transparent country on world map?

Now we know that all those so-called independent insitutions have PAP candidate sitting on the board and helping the ruling party doing all the ills in this country. 60% is screwed!!!
