It looks like Gan Kim Yong still has a long way to go to forge a bond with his residents.
At a Bursary Award presentation last week at Chua Chu Kang for which he was the Guest of Honour, the crowd was in a hurry to leave after accepting the award, despite the fact that the presentation was still going on.
Towards the end of the ceremony, there was not a single soul left in the hall and no one to applaud the last few recipients or chat with Gan.
To solve this problem, maybe Gan Kim Yong should learn from Chan Chun Sing by asking his loyal grassroots to sit in as audience in return for free chicken rice?

Not surprising the recipients of the government bursaries are as mercenary as the hand that feeds them. The PAP have shown time and again that money makes the world go round, and it's no surprise it's inculcated into the kids these day, why waste your time at the ceremony once your goal is accomplished and bursary in hand?
