Amazon is not an easy business. You don’t buy from Aliexpress. You buy from Alibaba. You don’t just send to Amazon and list your products.
There are lots of groundwork to be done before you even start buying from Alibaba. You need to know how to find reliable suppliers who don’t run away with your money. You need to get samples from different suppliers, nego price and quality with them. You need an inspection company to help you check goods before sending them off.
Before you get your product confirmed, you need to subscribe to helium10 to help you check out the demand, but millions of other sellers are also using the same software.
You need to create Amazon account with a monthly subscription fee for a decent amount of goods to be sent in.
You need to get professional photography and possibly videography done for your listing.
You need a good copywriter to do up your listing nicely.
You need to learn or pay someone to help you look into the keywords to create your title and listing so that your ppc (pay per click) will be effective.
PPC is the killer for most of us. One day you burn at least usd50 for the first few weeks to see which keywords to target. Some people burn usd 100-200 per day for a few weeks.
Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t l. The top sellers burn usd 500 per day on PPC. To them it is worth it because they become the top sellers. The question is: do you have so much to burn and tong first?
Usd50 per day for PPC is nothing on Amazon. But to most of us, you become discouraged when you see your money going out without a sale coming in. And after all these costs, you are lucky if you even break even. The experts tell you to expect yourself to make losses on your first shipment. They tell you it takes time. Yes, but most people give up after 3 to 6 months of losses because you are talking about a few thousand dollars worth of money going out every month. I could chalk up $7k of credit card bill in one month for my restock and ppc.
Amazon is not an easy business. It’s highly More than 90% of sellers fail. It’s not uncommon to lose $30k-$50k before you decide to cut your losses. And even then, if your products are not selling, you still have to pay Amazon to dispose of them. Everything about Amazon is money. The word FBA means Fulfilled By Amazon, but they charge you for storage, delivery, customer returns/damages, basically everything.
Unless you have lots of money to burn, don’t do Amazon.
