Mr Angie Flores, 44, outlet manager at Octapas Spanish Tapas Bar, which is located across the bridge where videos show the large crowds outside Riverside Point, said he saw the revellers when he went to 7-Eleven at around 11.15pm.

He told TODAY on Sunday that he saw more than 10 policemen in the area, but the crowd was “simply too big to control”.

“The police were talking to the people, telling them no mingling and trying to control the people,” he said, adding that the situation didn't improve.

He did not spot any social distancing ambassadors.

Videos circulating on social media show large crowds counting down to the new year, with many appearing to have their masks pulled down.

Mr James Raj, 36, manager at Cafe Iguana which is beside Jumbo Seafood @ Riverside, said that he saw the crowds forming at around 8.30pm.

By 9pm, there were “teenagers in the hundreds hanging around in groups”.

Mr Raj said that when he was leaving for home at 11.30pm, he saw two police cars.

He also noticed some policemen taking down particulars of some teenagers near the Swissotel Merchant Court.

“The groups were too large for the police,” he said.

Workers at Jumbo Seafood @ Riverside, which could be seen in the video, said that the restaurant was closed at 10pm and so they did not see the massive countdown crowd.

One worker at 7-Eleven who also worked on the night said that he did not leave the shop and was unaware of the crowd that had formed outside.

Don't tell me the MTF couldn't foresee this coming? Could have just announced in the news n on social media a week before New Year that no gatherings in groups allowed in public places on New Year's eve or face a heavy penalty if caught...

was this a funeral for the year 2021? funeral can have 30 pax right?

What's wrong with gathering for a celebration? It's not going to make any difference to the Covid situation at this stage.

The virus has already spread far and wide.

Hahaha...can SPF let us know what size crowd they would like to have to have control ?

Already said the poodles are mostly PRs from jiuhu, when large grouo the ball all shrink,if 1 person all poodles will pounce on him, that's the way poodles work hopeleds

Probably there was no ambulance in the vicinity lah. So, in case of emergency, the poodles have nowhere to hide/take cover. So, who dares to be there?

Cheebye I can’t even buy beer after 1030pm, but these clowns are allowed to run riot at midnight without mask?

Another example of now the incompetent PAP works -letting the covid situation spread to at one time the highest per 100,000 in the world while using the MSM to make it seems the WP's and the lying MP is a national crisis . They could have easily send the Ghurkha's but I guess they are too occupied guarding ministers's house
The Little India Riots and this incident shows what will really happen if serious riots were to occur

This is lame reasoning. Where are the Ang Chia boys? Mass PCC exercise inside their Queenstown base?
