Do you wonder why people lack self awareness?
When you tell someone his faults, he will look totally shocked and may not speak to you again.
Why don't they realize their shortcomings?
When someone tells me my faults, I will simply reply:
-- You need to get to know me better. (to chiobus)
-- I learned this from your mother. (to guys smaller sized than me)
-- This is only for the likes of you. (to ugly chicks)
-- I promise to turn over a new leaf (to big beefy guys)

hmm... some people would quote Maslow, but i thought otherwise. i thought that self awareness can arise at any occasion without the need of fulfilling the lower hierarchical needs, provided the individual saw things beyond oneself.

for example, the able-bodied good folks in Banda Aceh actually gave food to the more needy during the post-tsunami rescue efforts. it showed that folks can actually by-pass their basal needs and altruism can still manifest when these folks understood that they could withstand hunger a lil' while more than their fellow needy comrades, especially the sick and the old.

so i reckoned the crux of self awareness actually lies on the ability to reflect upon oneself, or some would say it's meta-cognition, and for your case, bro, you're clearly aware of yourself, your strengths and vulnerabilities. ;)

Hahaha, bro, altruism in some places, yes, but not in good ole Singkiepore.
People here have learned to be self centred through the years.
Must be something in the water. :)
It's important for us to entertain ourselves by looking at the behaviour of sillyporens, including our esteemed rulers and our foreign friends. :)

You mean you will be in shock and not speak to that person again. My friends and i are cool with feedback.

You are from uncle generation right?

So you will only turn over a new leaf if the big guy has the potential to pulverize you? WAH! Some man you are.

there used to be anonymous philanthropists donating huge sums of money... sadly, we seldom hear of such altruistic acts anymore... :(:(:(

y do ppl like 2 bring 2 other ppl's attention their limitions? ...

n dey demselves cant take it wen other ppl tel dem their own? ...

i donno maybe your heart is too hard?

I think it's coz we don't think of ourselves as a separate entity.

Our state of mind and heart will affect our level of self awareness, but i don't quite buy that it will cloud our self awareness ability totally.

What someone said about being more aware when you are not in the situation is very true.

If for example, you write diary in first person form, or view your life from a self-centred point of view, you aren't likely to be very self aware.

It's not a big problem not being self aware, just something nice to have, so that we can be more sensitive to our needs and the needs of others.

;):)
