the downfall of Qing dynasty was the causes and effects of the Taiping rebellion. during the rebellion, the Qing decentralized its military powers to effectively fight the rebels. military governors became very powerful, with the powers to raise taxes and troops. after the rebellion, the powerful military governors system stayed in place, the Hans generals for the first time had control over most of the armies since Qing China, the provinces acted with more independence. 40 years later, the Qing was weakened very much by the Boxer rebellion, the major military governors had an understanding with the foreign alliance not to send troops to aid the Qing court in the uprising. the stage was set for the 1911 Wuchang uprising.
