A school clerk handling financial assistance programmes for students of low-income families cheated 12 parents of $3,085 in 2009 and 2010.

Halijah Manaf, 49, fraudulently collected between $145 and $331 for computers that had been given to the children at a subsidised rate or free-of-charge under the NEU-PC programme set up by the Infocomm Development Authority.

On four occasions, she convinced parents that the sum of $280 had been wrongfully deposited into each of their children's accounts and they should withdraw it and return the money to her.

The money was actually financial aid to the student under the CapitaLand's Green for Hope project.
