Police warn Woodlands residents of scam targeting elderly
Posted: 08 June 2012 1757 hrs

SINGAPORE : Police have issued a crime alert, warning residents in Woodlands of a scam targeting senior citizens.

An elderly woman was cheated of cash and jewellery by three suspects who are believed to be Chinese nationals.

The suspects, two women and a man, offered to perform prayers for the victim to help her ward off a mishap that could lead to her death.

In exchange, she would hand over her cash and jewellery.

Police have described the male suspect as 1.7 metres tall, medium built and in his 40s.

He was last seen wearing a short-sleeved shirt, black pants and leather shoes.

The two women suspects are in their late 20s, about 1.5 metres tall and slim-built with long hair.

They were last seen wearing white T-shirts and three-quarter pants.

Police urged senior citizens to remain vigilant to prevent themselves from falling prey to fraudsters.

They should not fall for anything that sounds too good to be true, especially if they are asked to surrender their money or valuables.

They should walk away if they suspect anything and inform the police.

The public can help their elderly family members by updating them on such crimes.

Elderly woman cheated of S$12,700 in "scratch and win" scam
Posted: 08 June 2012 1826 hrs

SINGAPORE: In the first five months of the year, 46 Singaporeans have fallen prey to "scratch and win" lottery scams in Johor.

In all they lost S$175,000 to con men.

The latest case happened last Friday morning.

The 64-year-old victim was in Johor Bahru to do some shopping.

While she was crossing the overhead bridge towards Johor Customs, she was approached by two Chinese men.

They told her she can win prizes in a "scratch and win" game.

The elderly woman played the game and was told to follow the two suspects to Happy Gardens in a cab, to claim her prizes.

When she arrived at the location, the victim was told by a woman that the prizes would be sent to Ang Mo Kio for collection, and that she must pay S$12,700 in advance as taxes in order to claim the prizes.

The victim agreed and was brought back to Singapore in a Malaysian-registered car.

She withdrew S$12,700 in cash from a bank in Woodlands and handed over the money to the con men.

Thereafter, she was brought back to Johor where she was told that an electric pulse massager worth S$12,700 would be delivered to her house in two weeks.

The woman was brought back to Singapore with other "prizes" that she had won, which include a stove and a water system.

The items were valued at RM$1,556.

The victim reached home at about 7pm.

She came to her senses after a while and realised that she had been cheated.

Police have urged the public to be wary of such get-rich-quick offers.

They urged those who have fallen prey to similar scams to contact the police at 999 or 1800-255 0000.

He was a good man..good to himself. Nice one. I'll steal this joke :D

He treats his opponents as enemies.

A lot of brainwashed Sinkies will tell you that they are synonyms. I cringe whenever I hear Sinkies parroting the slippery slope fallacy of their masters that "politics is dirty all over the world and no government anywhere would ever help the opposition" as though fairness and a complete relinquishment of power are two of the same. If a football team isn't hurting the family members of their opponents, they are, according to the specious logic of the PAPzis, helping their opponents to win.

wei ...dont talk lawyer's language la....how are all of us going to understand what you saying leh.....

Every sentence got to refer to dictionary at least 4 times

PAPpies say if you never kick your opponent lj when you tackle the ball, you're surrendering the match to them. No one plays fair in world football. In real life, everyone is kicking each others' lj to win matches. Which is pure nonsense to anyone who has watched football from different parts of the world. Which other country in the world has ever detained an elected member of parliament for 32 years without giving him a chance to defend himself in court, all because he belongs to the opposition party? Get it?

He is good to his family members too. He thought and still thinks the world of them.
There are people to this day in sinkieland who think that he is a good person because he is good to his family members.
