Taipei, March 2 (CNA) Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea sold the most smartphones of any brand in Taiwan in January, followed by U.S. consumer electronics giant Apple Inc. and Taiwan's Asustek Computer Inc. and HTC Corp., according to industry sources.
A total of 728,000 mobile phones were sold in Taiwan in January, down 1 percent from the previous month, the sources said.
In terms of sales volume, Samsung had a 20.5 percent share in the Taiwan market for the month, the highest of any brand, followed by Apple at 19.4 percent, Asustek at 16.7 percent, HTC at 16.4 percent, and Japan's Sony Corp. at 8.8 percent, the sources said.
But because of the relatively high prices of its iPhones, Apple took a 50.2 percent share of Taiwan's smartphone market in terms of sales value, the sources said.
Samsung came in second with a 17.2 percent share in terms of sales value, ahead of Sony at 10.6 percent, HTC at 10.2 percent and Asustek at 6.7 percent, the sources said.
In terms of sales of single models, the iPhone 6s 64G was the top seller in the Taiwan market in January, ahead of the iPhone 6s Plus 64G, the Samsung Galaxy J7, Asustek's ZenFone 2 Laser ZE500KL, and the ZenFone 2 Laser ZE550KL.
The HTC Desire 728 came in sixth, followed by the Galaxy Note 5, the HTC Desire 626, the ZenFone Selfie and Sony's Xperia Z5, the sources said.
