Salaries for chairman of government statutory bodies, commissions and government-linked corporations (GLCs) will be reviewed by the Chief Secretary to the Government, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke today.
Loke cited that of Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) executive chairman Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad, who earns RM85,000 per month, which is more than the prime minister's basic salary of about RM25,000 per month.
"The executive chairman's salary in 2016, the year Mavcom was established was RM78,300. In 2017, he was given a 3% increment, and 5% in 2018. This has reached RM85,000 a month (today). It is more than the PM's salary," he told reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting today.
"Of course, I have raised this in the Cabinet, and the prime minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) has asked the Chief Secretary to the Government to review all salaries, not only that of the chairman of Mavcom but for all chairman of statutory bodies, commissions and GLCs," Loke added ...
