RESORTS World Sentosa (RWS) has received a letter of censure from the Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore (CRA) for making changes to its surveillance system without prior approval.
RWS was reprimanded after it was judged to have broken the rules of the Casino Control (Surveillance) Regulations by making alterations to its surveillance system without first obtaining approval, said the CRA.
Between March 29 and April 29, 2010, RWS implemented changes to its surveillance system.
Mr Richard Magnus, chairman of CRA, said: 'As part of its regulation of the casinos, CRA assesses on an ongoing basis, the casino operators' compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
'Should the casino operators be found to have breached any of the regulatory requirements, we will not hesitate to take them to task and let the law take its course, for there is a larger issue at stake - the reputation of Singapore as a respectable gaming jurisdiction.'
Said an RWS spokesperson to straitstimes.com: 'Resorts World Sentosa notes the Casino Regulatory Authority's censure with regards to the changes of its surveillance camera system at its new Maxims Platinum Club when the area was being refurbished for opening.'
'RWS has since implemented additional procedures to ensure strict compliance with the surveillance plans approved by CRA at all times. RWS assures CRA that any future changes to the casino surveillance system will be approved by the Authority in accordance with the relevant regulations.'
'As a responsible gaming operator, RWS respects and seeks to comply fully with Singapore?s gaming laws and regulations.'
