Author: Temasek Review

The public relations agency for Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), Weber Shandwick has written to Temasek Review Emeritus (TRE) clarifying the sexual haressment incident that was reported exclusively on TRE¡¯s site.
On 29th July 2011, TRE published an article titled Resorts World Sentosa attempts to cover-up sexual haressment incident where an allegation was made by a close friend of a molest victim Mimi, that the management of RWS had attempted to cover-up a sexual haressment incident.
Although RWS confirmed the sexual haressment incident, it added that it was the victim who decided not to pursue the matter.
¡°Mimi requested that RWS remove the offender from her area of work and that the incident be settled without a police report, and confirmed her request in writing.¡± wrote Weber Shandwick for RWS.
In contrast, TRE¡¯s informant who is a good friend of Mimi had earlier alleged that after the incident was reported (to the management):
¡°The RWS departmental head of EMS, a lady, then asked Mimi to write a letter, promising to drop the case and not to speak to anyone else about it since the male supervisor had already been fired. Mimi agreed because she was worried that if she did not comply, the EMS lady boss might change the cleaning contractor which meant Mimi would lose her job if WIS no longer had the contract. Mimi was happy to continue to work at RWS.¡±
Regardless and in all fairness to the parties involved, the letter from RWS is reproduced in full for our discerning readers.
Dear Editor,
We refer to the article ¡®Resort(s) World Sentosa attempts to cover-up sexual harassment incident¡¯, posted on Temasek Review Emeritus on 29 July 2011. Matters pertaining to workplace safety and worker welfare are of grave importance to Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), which is why we are writing to clarify particular inaccuracies in the report.
Mimi is a Supervisor with Weishen Industrial Services (WIS), which provides cleaning services to RWS. On 8 February 2011, Mimi reported to her Assistant Manager in WIS about this incident between her and a staff member of RWS. A joint investigation with WIS ensued, where the staff member in question admitted to the incident.
Mimi requested that RWS remove the offender from her area of work and that the incident be settled without a police report, and confirmed her request in writing.
After conducting its own investigations, WIS also confirmed that Mimi did not wish to pursue the case. RWS then dismissed the offender.
Subsequently, the offender was repatriated back to China on 11 February 2011, while WIS continued to assign Mimi to various jobs within RWS. RWS learnt in April that Mimi was assigned by her employer, WIS, for jobs in another location.
Workplace safety and ethical practices for all workers carrying out their duties at RWS, be they team members of RWS or external vendors ¨C remain top priority for the RWS Management.
TRE has confirmed that Weber Shandwick is the official public relations agency for RWS.
