Russian plasma stealth fighter

MiG 1.42/1.44 aka The Raptor Killer

Developed by the Russians, plasma stealth technology is also known as “Active Stealth Technology”.

Plasma stealth is a proposed process that uses ionized gas (plasma) to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) of an aircraft. A plasma stream is injected in front of the aircraft covering the entire body of the aircraft and absorbing most of the electromagnetic energy of the radar waves, thus making the aircraft difficult to detect.

There are few experimental studies of plasma’s effect on RCS. One of the most interesting articles was published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1963 and described the effect of plasma on the RCS of aircraft.

One of the most interesting russian fighters to benefit from the plasma stealth technology is the MiG 1.42/1.44 also known as the MFI (Mnogofunktsionalny Frontovoi Istrebitel - Multifunctional Frontline Fighter). This new aircraft is a fifth generation air-superiority fighter, a rival for the american F-22 Raptor.

Both aircraft have the same supercruise capability as well as thrust vectoring for super-maneuverability (a capability to fly at supercritical angles of attack, at increased level of sustained and available g-loads and high turn-angle rate, which require a greater thrust-to-weight ratio and improved wing aerodynamic efficiency). This aircraft may prove to be a milestone in aviation, as so many Russian aircraft were before.

The Raptor Killer makes conventional stealth aircraft osolete.

Mikoyan designed the MiG 1.42 in response to a Soviet requirement for a multi-role frontline fighter through the "Multifunctional Frontline Fighter" program begun sometime in the 1980s. The fighter was to directly compete against the end-product of the "Advanced Tactical Fighter" program being conducted in the United States (this end-product eventually becoming the production Lockheed F-22 "Raptor" air superiority fighter).

The 1.42 was selected as the eventually replacement to the successful Sukhoi Su-27 "Flanker" series in 1986. While the designation of "1.42" was used to signify the project itself as well as the main prototype(s), the designation of "1.44" was used for to signify the program's aerodynamic test airframe of (which two are thought to have been produced) and its plasma stealth technology.

The 1.44 is essentially an aerodynamic demonstrator. In all, the 1.42 program appears as nothing more than a technology demonstrator for both the Mikoyan bureau and the Russian Air Force.

The MiG 1.42 and the PAK FA

Russian officials were quick to note the type's excellence over that of the American F-22. The Russians continue to play catch up in a Fifth Generation fighter development with their upcoming Sukhoi PAK FA (Prospective Air Complex - Frontal Aviation), a development more in line with perhaps the multirole-minded Lockheed F-35 Lightning II.

The PAK FA (now expected to replace both the MiG-29 and the Su-27 series) has now evolved to become a joint development effort between Russian and India. The initial PAK FA prototype first flew in early 2010.

The joint development effort (essentially spawning a derivative of the PAK FA for Indian service) is known under the designation of FGFA (Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft) and involves both Sukhoi of Russia and HAL of India. An agreement between the two parties was signed in 2001. It is believed that the MiG 1.42/1.44 has been used as a data collection platform for the PAK FA program and similar powerplants found on the former are said to power the latter.

As I had mentioned, Soviets or Russia do not have the money nor do they have the breadth of mfg capability to challenge the US. Without the $$ cannot challenge the US.

I believe the Mig was canceled due to lack of funds.

It takes a lot of $$ from move from concept to actuality.

Russians got MORE MONEY THAN USA. ;)

USA is deep in debt and no one now wish to lend them any. Russia is loaded comparing against EU & US. Russia have no problem to borrow and repay unlike EU & US. Russia sells lots of oil and gas to PRC who paid cash. Russia can sell weapons to oil rich Arabs who will use these advanced weapons to fuck USA & EU.;)

Soviets built entire military industrial cities each for one military product. They have a TANK CITY & MISSILE CITY & 2 WARPLANE CITIES. These cities are for no other purposes than production of weapons. There are many other AMMO TOWNS for production and storage of ammos.

The broke USA have to cut military budget like hell, and even if they printed more real counterfeit US dollars, no one dare to accept nor recognize their empty values. They are toilet papers.

No lah, US debt still number one. US maybe broke but they can still borrow and their GDP is big enough to carry the debt.

Yes, they may have dedicated factories for tanks, fighters but often it is the techniques from pte industry that flows to military. If you note the Russians are not even a player in the commerical aviation or automobile industry.

Do you know that Singapore had imported Russian / Soviet automobile including what is called LADA.

;)

For any country to lend US any further money, they need to pledge collateral assets to be defaulted when they failed to repay in due time.

US debt is snowballing from HUGE to ULTRA HUGE.

True that US debt is huge but their GDP is also huge. Better to look at debt as a percentage of GDP. Japan is at 200% and US is probably around 60%

Yah, Singapore used to have LADA - an old Fiat 124 and also Volga. They still make them. But these cars are noisy, uncomfortable for the driver and passenger, poor fuel consumption. But they do the job.

In a way their military hardware is the same. Lets look at jet engines. Their jet engine made by Klimov. Klimov basically supplies to their military so the market is limited. Compare that to GE. GE has a huge and booming commercial aviation market where they make huge $$ if they can provide an engine that is fuel economical, reliable and quiet. All that technology flows to their military applications. Russians may have the smart engineers but no ability to execute well. They simply do not have the manufacturing base needed to compete with the West.

To successfully design and build a Gen 4/5 fighter jet, you need money, know how and the industrial base. Know how is not difficult to get. Mfg Base is the problem. You can create a whole supply chain overnight. You need an electronics/semi conductor industry (lots of electronics), composite industry (bet you there is dual usage between mfg of carbon fibre/titanium for golf clubs and that of jet engines), etc etc.

The major industrial powerhouses like Japan, Germany, S Korea and China all have the strong industrial base. From ships to chips they have it all. They can pretty much develop what they want.

How do you think the Chinese managed to cobble together a stealth fighter that fast? They have that critical mass of $ + know how (easy part, just hire Russian engineers) + industrial base.

Read that China now has the world's fastest super computer. I would not be surprised if it is used to help improve the stealth fighter.

Put it another way, lets say the US tomorrow decides to hand over the plans to their F22 fighter. How many countries in the world can actually build the jet. I think the ones with the $ and industrial base - Japan, germany, China and S Korea.

Fuck lah. China can pump their toilet-grade USD to JV with the russkies to develop and manufacture this aircraft. Win-win for both china and russia. USA is the only loser here on many fronts, economic as well as military.

A great proposal,it should be forwarded to Mafia chief PUTIN and Stony faced Hu,both share life long ambition to destroy Uncle Sam

The possibility?May be 10%
