An online campaign urging women to rip off their clothes in support for Vladimir Putin is spicing up Russia’s tense presidential race.

The movement was launched by a group called “Putin’s Army,” which opened its homepage on Russia’s leading social-networking service, vkontakte.ru/armiaputina, over the weekend.

A video clip on the site features three young women asking Russian girls to tear off their clothes in a show of support for Prime Minister Putin ahead of next year‘s election.

The trio announces a nudity competition with an Apple iPad2 at stake.

With a mission statement reading, “For Putin to be president,” the group highlights photos and videos of the former Russian ruler. He was president from 2000-08 before handing over power to his top aide Dmitry Medvedev.

Neither Putin nor the incumbent president has yet to announce whether they will run in the election scheduled for March 2012. Medvedev suggested on June 10 they would not compete against each other in the presidential vote.
