Wayne Rooney has been left out of the squad for Manchester United's match against his former club Everton this afternoon.

The England international was not on the team coach when it arrived at Goodison Park before kick-off and his name did not appear on the team sheet. The player had been expected to receive a hostile reception from fans following revelations about his private life this week. The reason behind his absence is unclear and it is not known if he is injured.
