Robbery in Ang Mo Kio: Man arrested

SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old man, believed to have been involved in a case of armed robbery, was nabbed on Saturday.
He is suspected to have robbed a 27-year-old woman of her handbag after threatening her with a knife on Aug 3.
The incident took place at 10.42pm, in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Street 51.
The victim called the police hotline immediately. Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive ground inquiries and managed to retrieve a closed-circuit TV image of the suspect before spotting him.
He was arrested near Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, the police said yesterday.
The handbag and the knife were recovered and seized as case exhibits.
The suspect is expected to be charged with armed robbery today. If convicted, he can be jailed up to 14 years and caned at least 12 strokes.
