RM500 for an abortion in Penang and Klang Valley

OTHER NEWS & VIEWS

FOR a mere RM500, women who want to terminate their pregnancy can go for an illegal abortion in some maternity clinics in Penang and the Klang Valley, reported China Press.

Reporters from the daily who went undercover to clinics in Penang and Kuala Lumpur found that the fees for terminating a seven-week foetus is only between RM500 and RM600.

However, the fees will be higher if the pregnancy is more advanced.

The clinics charge about RM2,000 for women who are 18 weeks pregnant as the risk is higher.

In one of the clinics in Penang, an undercover reporter was reminded that it was illegal to go for an abortion and that she must not tell anyone about it except to her very close family members.
