For almost a month now, the PAP MP for MacPherson SMC - the one and only super-infamous wife of the Prime Minister’s Private Secretary; and youngest ever elected PAP MP, who often stumbles for words to say and has a knack for lifting and banging her feet very strongly on the ground - Ms Tin Pei Ling; has gone Missing-In-Non-Action.
Locking Up:
-Since her last post on 24 June 2011 – the 3rd in a series of Short Notes she had regularly published since her election win in May, titled: ‘Short note on housing 3: HDB land – a matter of principle’, she has gone completely missing. Even her Tweeter account is now locked. It seems that the pressure of being MP is getting to her and she is attempting to retreat into a hole which she has yet to discover or has created for herself.
Rumour also has it that she may be pressured into having a baby as soon as possible so as to be an exemplary model for the government’s drive in encouraging younger women to have their babies early. After all, her husband isn’t that young anyway and it is high time he became a father and a parent too. Could this be the reason for her going missing? Have there been frequent quarrels at home with hubby having to directly suck up to the PM while she not only have to do the same, but to have to make sure she also suck up to her residents. Well, it’s a balance she has to strike for the ambition she has set for herself. I am not sure if I should even sympathize with her.
Too Much Pressure:
Anyway, my note is about her disappearance from her own FB home. Is it a sign that she is running away from the pressures of being MP; having to walk the ground, tend to the new media of FB and tweeter, attend Party meetings and having grass & roots parties.
Over at her FB page, where comment count is slowly climbing while supporters wait patiently for her next note, she seems to have abandoned her account altogether. Perhaps she has too many things in her hands that she has to dump some which are ‘less important’. If this is the case, then she is but another liar who wears WHITE. She had talked about engaging Singaporeans in “a new environment” where there is “more voices and more debates”.
Operating in a new phase & in a new environment:
This is what she said on May 27/06/2011 @ 6pm in one of her FB post: “Singapore is in a new phase – there are now more voices and more debate. It is a new environment that all of us have to learn to operate in.”
She must have figured that the best way to “learn to operate” in the “new environment” is TO GO INTO HIDING. How does she expect to connect with Singaporeans if she treats them as if they are invisible. Is her nose too high in the air? Or are the noises too loud for her liking? Whatever it is; she is RUNNING AWAY!
She forgets that she is no longer only the MP for MacPherson but also a member of the Home Affairs and Law in the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC). Does she know that she now has to connect with the whole of Singapore instead of just wild rats and their feeding trucks in MacPherson?
Taking the Good without the Bad:
Some time ago, on 26 May, she solicited feedback on her own FB page, asking for readers’ opinions whether unflattering comments should be removed. She wanted “to listen to both sides before deciding”. After getting more than 500 comments, she decided to face the challenge head-on by deciding to keep the good with the bad. Here’s what she said:
Tin Pei Ling: “Hi everyone, thanks for all your feedback. I wanted to have your views before deciding. Now, having heard the arguments on both sides, I have decided to leave things be. Many of you have given me good advice – to take the good with the bad, and focus on doing my job well”.
Having listened to BOTH sides she had decided to leave things be. Many of us were excited with her approach. We were ready to face up to her conviction and to engage her on her notes. We believed she wanted to “focus on doing her job well” and to “take the good with the bad”.
Not much action but missing just as well:
Alas, a few short notes after that and poof! …. she decided to abandoned ship and had disappeared till this day.
