JOHOR BARU: Hundreds of residents affected by the massive storm in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah here are left with a huge mess to clean up and are praying that a similar storm does not hit them again.

Housewife Liza Nababan, 33, said everything in her home was soaked and she was afraid every time it rained.

“I don't even dare switch on the lights as everything is soaking wet,” she said at her flat here yesterday.

At the height of the mess: Residents repairing their roofs in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Johor Baru, Sunday.

Liza added that winds had blown off most of her roof but the family had no choice but to rough it out as they had nowhere else to go.

Retiree Nge Yek Hoi, 72, said the residents hope that the weather stayed fine as they start the clean-up.

“All my furniture, including my mattresses, are soaking wet and the whole house is filled with debris,” said Nge, who had never “never experienced such a storm” before.

Another housewife S. Vanaja, 36, is still recovering from her shock as she had “only seen things like these in movies.

“It was terrifying to be in the house when the storm struck,” she said, adding that many of her furniture and electrical appliances had been damaged.

Gelang Patah MCA division chief Jason Teoh said it received 300 reports from residents whose houses were damaged in the storm.
