Amodei ad taps fears of Chinese invasion
Posted: Jun 20, 2011 11:10 PM Updated: Jun 20, 2011 11:19 PM Jason Latham - email
In his first ad for Nevada's second congressional district, newly-selected GOP nominee Mark Amodei claims the United States is on a path to Chinese rule if Congress raises the debt limit.
The clip, titled "Fight the Debt Limit," features a Chinese newscaster presenting a hypothetical account of America's decline and China's rise to power.
"Once upon a time, America became its own worst enemy," the announcer reads, her voice dubbed poorly over the newscaster.
The ad portrays President Barack Obama as subservient to Chinese leaders and includes an image of Chinese soldiers marching on the U.S. Capitol.
Amodei's ad is unique in that it's the first to inject Red Scare-era propaganda tactics into the state's Sept. 13 special House election.
The former state Republican chairman ends the ad saying "It's not too late to stop this nightmare," and vowing never to raise the debt limit if he's elected.
