Reformative training for transvestite over attempted extortion

SINGAPORE: A teenage transvestite has been ordered to undergo reformative training for attempting to extort S$50 from a man by threatening to upload the victim's nude photos online.
17-year-old Ryan Raj had cross-dressed at the time of the offence.
A week before the offence, he became acquainted with the 25-year-old male victim on the chat website called "Alamak".
They exchanged phone numbers and arranged to meet up.
But before that, the victim sent Raj naked photos of himself.
The two eventually met up.
About a week later on 24 September, the accused demanded the victim give him S$50.
Raj threatened to upload the victim's nude photos online.
But the victim made a police report instead.
Raj also admitted to providing false information to the police in September, on a separate matter.
In pleading for leniency, Raj asked the district judge to not send him for reformative training as he has "enemies" there.
But Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said the accused is suitable for rehabilitation only in a structured environment. - CNA/xq
