Why is "Cai Fan" in the CBD area becoming a luxury item now?

Honestly, the "oil rice" (cai fan) prices are getting out of hand. Went to a food court near Raffles Place today, took 2 veg 1 meat, and the auntie charged me $8.50. I almost asked her if the chicken was gold-plated.

I remember when $5 could get you a full plate. At this rate, it's cheaper to just fast or bring bread from home. Is it just that specific stall or is the whole of SG just becoming unplayable for the average person? I’m seriously considering just moving back to KL or finding a side gig that actually pays enough to keep up with this inflation. Ridiculous lah.

"Cai fan" means vegetable rice.Prices are usually more expensive in CBD area because of higher rental.
That's why dabao own food. Just need to wake up earlier, that's all. Healthier, less sodium, less saturated fat and more hygenic because you eat what is prepared by yourself.

How much does cai fan at Lau Pasat cost now ?

Before I started my "globetrotting", I worked at an office building at the corner of Robinson Road. I ate cai fan @ Golden Shoe Carpark. Not easy to find cai png unless you go to Lau Pasat, which I would patronize once in a while. Then I moved to Chinatown. Food became easily accessible.

You forgot that Singapore is world’s most expensive city…does not only apply to expats.

Must thank the JHKs taking over Cai Fan and started to charge per item instead of fixed price for 2veg 1 meat system.
No prices shown and anyhow charge and no longer called 经济饭菜

Looks like I should start a cai png store in CBD.
To be profitable, you must buy only China and Malaysia veggies and ingredients which are generally laden with lots of pesticides and not soaked or washed long enough. Thanks to contributing to high cancer rate in Singapore

Reason why I stopped patronising those young looking jhks cai fan stall but support the local old man old woman zi char stall instead till they retire.

You're not paying for the food. You're paying for the rent. I believe the rent in the CBD area is much higher than the rent in the HDB heartlands.

Welcome to the new normal in a money laundering hub. When it comes to food: expect price increase, quality decrease, quantity decrease.

If you're on a budget, I highly recommend skipping lunch. One meal a day is all you need. And spend a little more to eat high quality food during that one meal.

Most of the modern health problems usually come from eating too much food than what your body can realistically digest and absorb anyway.

Don't forget about 95% pak zham morons. Candidates for turbo cancer.

How else would the oncologists get new customers? Or the insurance merchants justify charging higher premiums and/or restricting coverage?
