What should I do if I suspect a colleague may be using e-cigarettes or vaping?
DiscussionI occasionally notice a strong scent coming from someone at work, but it doesn't happen every day. When others ask about it, there is usually some alternative explanation given, so I don't have any concrete evidence and don't feel comfortable making a report based solely on suspicion.
What makes me wonder is that the smell often seems to appear after the person returns from outside, and it can linger for quite a while. Sometimes, after the odor fades, it seems to become noticeable again when the person takes a deep breath.
My main concern is that the smell gives me headaches and makes me feel dizzy. However, I do not feel comfortable raising the matter directly, as I am concerned it could create unnecessary workplace issues or misunderstandings.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What would be the most appropriate way to handle it when there is no clear evidence, but the odor is affecting your well-being?
Also, consulting my manager is not really an option in this case. There is a very close relationship between the individual involved and my manager, and my manager generally does not respond well to feedback or concerns regarding people they favor.
