Doctors reattach man's nose

HA NOI (VNS) — A 37-year-old man who had his nose severed had it reattached after 13-hours of surgery, according to doctors from Ha Noi-based Viet Nam-Germany Hospital yesterday.
The man, from central Ha Tinh Province, was the first person in Viet Nam to have the procedure, and is expected to make a full recovery. He will be discharged from the hospital in a couple of days.
The patient was hospitalised on February 17 after his nose was cut off during an accident, according to Doctor Dao Van Giang from the hospital‘s Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Department.
"This is an extremely difficult surgery because blood vessels inside the nose are very small," Giang said, adding that he and his colleagues went to painstaking effort to reattach the nose.
More than ten of such surgeries have been successfully conducted in the world to date. — VNS
