This is what he told me.
Apparently, the real talents don't want to come to Singapore. It's the half-past six people who want to come to Singapore and don't mind borrowed RMB50,000 just to get a job here.
Real talents like IT grads in China are quite happy to stay back in China. They can easily get RMB6-8K a month. Some even more than $10-20K a month as a programmer. They are quite comfortable at home and no need to take risk to come here to work.
It's the people who are not so educated like to come to Singapore to get a job. These people don't mind to work in kopitiams, restaurants, sales outlets, bakeries, workers, KTV etc... They will go all way out to even borrow money to come to Singapore to work cause in China, at best they can only get RMB1K in cities. In smaller cities, they are paid even less, at RMB600-800. For farmers, they can only make RMB1-2K per family for the whole year.

this is so true. there is obviously something very wrong with our import of FT policy. We are really getting the lowly educated, less cultured prc into singapore. The real ones are in China. I have been in China since 2005 and see for myself. The competent ones would not even consider Singapore to work/migrate in the 1st place. US, Aust and UK are their priority if they need to leave. This is the reason why now we are seeing the ugly side of FT/PRs with low level of civilization. These people do not understand the meaning of society behavior or gracious living and the main reason why Singaporean is not able to tolerate them cos in the first place they REALLY do not fit into the society with us but the GOVT insists on doing so.

Of course. I've said many times that there are many talented people from PRC.
But the really talented ones are in China running the government, state owned companies, local mncs, managers of foreign mncs or in USA or Europe running the china arm of their mncs.
The ones we get here are mostly from the bottom of the barrel.
