<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Tuesday's Forum Online letter by Ms Hoon Hua Jong ("Cycling louts along pedestrian walkways must be stopped") about cyclists who ring their bells incessantly at pedestrians from behind.
This nuisance is happening everywhere and most of the culprits seem to be foreign workers from India, Bangladesh and China.
The pavement parallel to Penang Road, just outside the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, is also heavily used by cyclists of all nationalities between 7am and 8am daily. They appear to have no regard for others' safety and do not respect pedestrians' right of way.
I have written to the Traffic Police many times and was promised that action would be taken, but to date, I still see many cyclists there being a nuisance to pedestrians.

Cyclists getting bolder at pedestrian crossings
</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->ONCE, many years ago, the Traffic Police informed me that pedestrian crossings were meant for pedestrians only.
Now, it is common to see cyclists riding boldly across pedestrian crossings, much to the annoyance of pedestrians, especially the elderly.
The situation has become intolerable. It has come to a stage wheresome cyclists even rebuke or challenge motorists who horn at them for their reckless act.
Many cyclists seem to assume that they have the right to cycle across pedestrian crossings.
In my opinion, this unsatisfactory state of affairs has come about through a seemingly lenient view taken by the authorities.
