A video posted on social media by an Indian professional working in Singapore has sparked wide debate online after he contrasted workplace leave culture in India with what he has experienced abroad.

Aman, a vlogger and engineer, shared a short Instagram reel showing scenes from his Singapore office while describing how attitudes toward taking time off differ sharply between the two countries.

In the voiceover, he recalled having to beg for leave in India, saying employees often felt pressured to cite illness or family emergencies just to take a day off, especially on Fridays.
“In India, we had to invent tragedies to ask for leave.

Here in Singapore, I do not ask, I just inform,” he said, adding that once the clock hits 6 pm, his time belongs to him, not his boss. “If you’re sitting in the office after 8 pm thinking you’re hardworking, you’re not hardworking, you’re just being exploited,” he added.

In his Instagram caption, Aman wrote that the biggest mindset shift after moving to Singapore was learning to stop justifying time off. He said toxic work environments force employees to overshare personal details in hopes of getting leave approved, whereas healthier workplaces expect professionals to manage their schedules responsibly.

He contrasted the difference simply as:
“Sir, can I please take leave?”
“I will be OOO (out of office) from Monday to Wednesday.”

Aman ended his post by asking his followers whether they still feel afraid to send an out-of-office email.

The video has triggered hundreds of reactions online, with many users agreeing with his assessment, while others asked, “How did you get a job there?”
