Public Transport Council to defer fare review exercise
The Public Transport Council has decided to defer this year's fare review exercise to the fourth quarter of 2011.
This is to coincide with the opening of Phases 4 and 5 of the Circle Line (CCL) from Marymount to HarbourFront.
The exact opening date will be announced later.
In a statement, the Public Transport Council says the Circle Line connects all the existing rail lines into the city.
With its opening from Marymount to HarbourFront in the fourth quarter of 2011, rail fares may change for many commuters who are able to use the CCL to bypass MRT interchanges like City Hall and Raffles Place MRT stations.
By timing the fare review exercise with the opening of Phases 4 and 5 of the CCL, commuters will see at most one round of fare changes this year.
The Council adds that the intention of the deferment is to minimise changes for commuters, and will also eliminate the need to conduct separate rounds of fare system reconfiguration, testing and fare publication.
