The outstanding public debt as of January 31 totalled 4.36 trillion baht, or 41.06 per cent of gross domestic product, Public Debt Management Office director general Chakkrit Parapuntakul said on Tuesday.
Of the total public debt, 3.12 trillion baht was the debt directly acquired by the government, 1.08 trillion baht was debts owned by state enterprises that are financial institutions, and the remaining 167.27 billion baht was debt incurred by the non-financial institution state enterprises, Mr Chakkrit said.
The public debt had increased from the previous month, December, by 64.46 billion baht, he said.
The debt owned by the government went up by 28.66 billion baht, the debt of financial institution state owned firms by 16.89 billion baht and non-financial institution state enterprises by 18.91 billion baht, he added.
