Seems like our primary school students are increasing being exploited to do "pre-teen national service" for the government and private sector.

Students learn Chinese by playing host at TCM exhibition

SINGAPORE : One of the best ways to master a language is to speak it.

And about 50 students did just that - at an exhibition on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

At the Suntec City Convention Centre, 28 students from Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School are playing hosts, explaining the uses of Chinese herbs to visitors.

They were joined by some junior college and polytechnic students who do not always use Chinese.

"It's my first time speaking so much Chinese. I was apprehensive and worried... but after I introduced the traditional medicine shop to the people, even though I did not have enough experience talking to them about it, it actually inspired me to continue learning about Chinese medicine," said Cassandra Leong, a first-year student at Anglo-Chinese Junior College.

"I feel it's a great way of learning Chinese and also about (Chinese) herbs. If I do not understand, I can ask the Chinese physicians strolling around. I also feel it's a great way of building up my confidence, and I can also learn to speak in front of a crowd," said Tan Cheng Hueng, a primary five student at Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School.gl
