SINGAPORE: President Tony Tan Keng Yam has called on Singaporeans not to allow diversity to divide the country.

A key theme of his Opening Address to the 12th Parliament is how Singapore has to manage an increasingly diverse population, with different demands, expectations and needs, and still remain a cohesive society.

In his address, Dr Tan set out the government's priorities, policies and programmes for its five-year term.

Dr Tan said that the government will look into the needs and concerns of the different strata in the community.

These include the lower-income, the majority in the middle, those who do exceptionally well, senior citizens and the young Singaporeans.

Dr Tan also highlighted challenges in efforts to reach out to the people.

He stressed that the new media must be used constructively to connect with the digital generation.

Dr Tan also called on all Singaporeans to do their part and work towards a shared goal of creating a better life for all.

How about curbing high salaries which is really divisive???

I will be watching what he himself will be doing besides opening his fucking mouth.

tony, don't speak good english. some of us may no understand what u r trying to pull off. for example, how many of those living in HDB 3-Rm flats know how to pronoun DIVERSITY and know its meaning?

PAP itself is dividing the country.
Either you are with them or with the opposition.

From the first 25 years of their rule, we were well on our way to integration where citizens had no problems establishing our own identity and culture. After Woody took over the helm and one by one the Old Guards left, it began to fall apart. They threw the baby with the bath water out of the window when Singapore changed course and the government forgot it's role and began pursuing their pot of gold at the expense of the country and it's people.

When can we receive the results of Patrick Tan's earth shattering research?

Not to forget that Wooden came to help fight the election in the opposition ward in Hillview Ave estate. Armed with promise of upgrading programme to win back the ward, shake hands with voters on has walk about, and he and Tony Tan stood a few meters near the voting area.

All these wayang for nothing after winning back the ward from the opposition. No gratitude to the voters for winning back the ward from opposition, and to do good to the ward, but only know how to bull doze the whole estate and disperse the voters, very dubious indeed and betrayal of trust.

What is Tony Tan whinging about not to divide the nation, for fuck sake?

They residents deserved to be "fark", there is no sympathy for these people.

How to respect a president who won slightly over 30% of the votes but misjudged more than 70% in his investments?
