A Singaporean living in London said: "It's always good to hear good news from back home, compared to all the bad news that we are hearing whilst we are here in Europe."
Geneve Yeo, UK-Singapore Students Council, said: "I think it's definitely very heartening and very positive for the student community here because for most of the Singaporeans who are looking at returning upon graduation, it definitely bodes very well for all of us. So that we can return to our families and find work and employment there."
The president and his wife stayed to meet and talk with many of the guests.
But no time to say a few words about the train problems!
