A PREGNANT woman was jailed for two weeks on Friday for maid abuse in 2009.
Wendy Seow Wei Leng, 32, who is expecting a child in May, pleaded guilty to three of seven charges of causing hurt to Myanmar national Aye Aye Kyu, 23, at her Bedok North Street 4 flat in 2009.
On March 26 that year - one month into the maid's employment - Seow, then a housewife, hit the maid on the shoulders when she got angry with her for having folded in her (Seow's) unwashed blouse among the clothes in the cupboard.
The court heard that on May 5, 2009, Seow asked the maid to take a packet of minced meat from the freezer.
When she took out a packet of pork instead, Seow became angry and threw the packet towards her, hitting her right cheek.
Then on June 22, she slapped the victim who heard wrongly and heated some bread for two seconds instead of 20 seconds.
The offences came to light when the maid ran away from home on July 17 that year (2009) and went to the Manpower Ministry at Kim Seng Road.
Seow could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined up to $7,500 on each of the three charges.
