The 38-year-old and his alleged accomplice, Xu Ruifu, 42, were among a group of five who went to the US$100-million Singapore International Jewellery Show at the Marina Bay Sands exhibition hall last Thursday.

A court heard that the duo had conspired to swap fake stones with real ones at the exhibition. He then walked hurriedly to the exit doors.

After a while, Xu made his way to meet his accomplice but both were caught red-handed by a plainclothes police officer who had been watching them. A box with two small white stones were recovered from Deng.
