SINGAPORE - Two floors at Orchard mall Lucky Plaza was drenched for a second time in a week after the ceiling started leaking during a downpour on Wednesday evening.

One of the lifts could not be used as it was waterlogged, Lianhe Wanbao reported on Thursday. This is the second incident following leakages on Saturday, the report said.

A few workers were seen using pipes to draw the water from the first and second floors and the lift.

The water had dripped on a mobile phone shop on the ground floor of the 34-year-old shopping centre.

Shop manager Mr Lu, 32, told Wanbao this happens every time it rains.

On Saturday (July4), Mr Lu said some mobile phone boxes got wet, and he had to sell the handsets at half price.

More shops appeared to be affected on Saturday, including shops selling accessories, clothing and shoes.

Shop owners said on Saturday that some of their goods were damaged.

In 2013, Lucky Plaza installed a 150m-long, automatic pop-up flood barrier system after floods inundated the basement in 2010 and 2011.

For the second in a week, the first two levels of Lucky Plaza become flooded after a heavy rain on Wednesday (July 8) evening. One of the only two passenger lifts in the 34 year old Orchard Road shopping centre was not working because water has seeped into the lift.

According to a mobile shop manager, the ceiling always leak severely when it rains. His mobile shop was badly affected and many of his mobile phones are drenched by the leakage resulting him having to sell them at half price. Most shops in the first two levels were severely affected by the ceiling leakage that the floor at some areas were waterlogged.
In 2013, Lucky Plaza built a 150m long automatic flood barrier system after repeated flooding at Orchard Road in 2010 and 2011.

What happened to the emergency flood barriers built there & Liat Towers after abang said, it was 1 in 50 years ponding thing?? didn't they get another general to helm PUB & rebuilt, expand or improve Stamford Canal???

or is the drainage around Lucky Plaza stuck, due to foliage in the culvert ( ask Abang) or too many condoms, cluttering the waste pipes or sewerage pipes?? or tissues or sanitary pads??
