Police nab 2 snatch thieves within 24 hours

SINGAPORE - Police arrested two suspects, aged 15 and 33 years old, within 24 hours of a reported case of snatch theft committed around Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.
On May 16 2013 at about 7.50pm, a 62-year-old victim lodged a police report informing that two unknown suspects had attempted to snatch her handbag.
The victim stated that she was waiting for her bus along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 on May 15 at about 5.30am when the suspects came from behind her and grabbed her handbag.
After a violent struggle with the victim, the suspects did not manage to snatch the handbag and fled from the scene.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established both suspects’ identities within 24 hours. The 15-year-old suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 while his accomplice was arrested in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9.
The 15-year-old suspect will be charged in court on May 18. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 7 years' imprisonment and shall be liable for caning. Investigations against the other suspect are ongoing.
