POLICE have noted recently several reports of outrage-of-modesty cases committed by culprits impersonating police officers and using different reasons to conduct checks on victims.
These "checks" include as checking for drugs, and for cigarettes in cases of suspected underage smoking.
They then take such opportunities to outrage the modesty of their victims.
Culprits have also been known to flash fake "police" passes.
The public is advised that the proof of a police officer's identity is his warrant card, which will carry identification features such as the police crest, photograph of the officer and his NRIC number.
If in doubt of the identity of the person claiming to be a police officer, such as when he is unable to produce his warrant card, members of the public should call '999' for assistance.
Impersonating a public servant is a serious offence which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or both.
