KULAI: Police are looking for a man who is believed to have thrown a Hindu idol into a dustbin, an act which was captured on CCTV and has gone viral on social media.
According to Kulai district police chief Tok Beng Yeow, his department received a police report regarding the incident from the idol’s owner on May 15.
The incident occurred in front of the complainant’s house in Taman Scientex, Senai, Johor, at 9am, on the same day the report was filed.
“The complainant said the religious idol was kept in the front yard of his house for decorative purposes only,” said Tok in a statement today.
He also said the complainant told police that there was no damage to the idol and it was placed back in its original place.
Tok added that police had taken a copy of the CCTV recording to investigate the case under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
Earlier, a 42-second-long clip that showed the act being committed by the suspect was uploaded on Facebook by a user named Krishnamoorthy Vichu.
