7 ARRESTS FOR BETTING SYNDICATE
Police busts illegal 4D

AN ISLANDWIDE operation on illegal 4D betting syndicates ended with seven arrests on Wednesday. The suspects, aged 45 to 65 years old, are believed to be part of an illegal 4D syndicate and were involved in the collection of 4D bets from punters.
Seized during the operation was about $20,000 cash, 11 mobile phones, six fax machines, five calculators, some note books and papers with betting records, as well as an assortment of articles believed to be related to the collection of bets.
The estimated value of the total bets collected was approximately $10,000. Three of the seven suspects were charged in court on Monday, with two suspects receiving a sentence of two weeks imprisonment and a $20,000 fine.
The case for the third suspect has been fixed for further mention on 10 Dec 2010. The other four suspects have been released on bail pending further investigations.
