IPOH - The police have busted a fraud syndicate dubbed "African scam" following the arrest of four suspects, including two Nigerians in a raid in Nilai, Seremban.

State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said a Japanese lady, 27, and a Malaysian, 42, were also detained alongside the Nigerians, aged 34 and 58.

"The arrests were carried out after we received two police reports last week, one from a 32-year-old nurse and another from a 40-year-old teacher," he told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters here Thursday.

The teacher from Ipoh lost RM12,000 (S$4670) and the nurse from Taiping RM90,000 to the syndicate, he added.

DCP Mohd Shukri said among items seized in the raid were four mobile phones, four bank books, four ATM cards, one Internet modem and one box of name cards.

"We believe the syndicate has been active in the last three years and most of their victims are female," he said.
